The Kitty Surprise Has Been Resurrected

Does anyone else remember these from the early 90s?? Man, these things were so cool and all my (girl) friends had them. I remember asking for the bunny one, horse one, cat one, puppy one and whatever other variety they had for Christmas and my mom made me narrow it down to one. I got the Kitty Surprise for Christmas and was so excited to rip open the stomach and find that my kitty had X number of kittens! How exciting/creepy! I had forgotten all about this favorite toy until I was over at my parents' house and I glanced out the back door and saw it sitting on the rain-soaked back porch. It is so much creepier than I remembered. I said, "Ummm... WHAT is my Kitty Surprise doing out on the PORCH?!?" My mother responded that she was using it to scare away the birds and that it was working on the older birds, but the younger birds didn't seem to mind... To which I said, "Mom, you're super weird. I'm totally documenting this." HAHA! So hilarious! That mom of mine is thinkin' outside the BOX! A+.

There's no place like home... There's no place like home...

 

Well, today Joe and I (me, the native Kansan) experienced our first tornado! I was driving home on my lunch break around 11:00 AM to have lunch with Joe and the music stopped mid-song and the robot recording guy told me to take cover for a tornado!! Kinda freaky! It was pretty dark out and it was raining hard, but nothing looked unusual especially since we have been having so much rain lately. Well, then the tornado sirens went off. If you don't know what those are they are basically a foghorn thing on a big high pole that rotates around on top and makes this loud semi high-piched warning sound. If it's facing you it's super loud. I have heard it a decent amount because they set it off on Wednesdays to make sure it works, but I don't hear it often foreal! When I was a little girl, I used to see the sky change to crazy colors every now and again... green, yellow or orange. This time I SAW a real tornado and there were no crazy colors! I burst through the front door to tell Joe what I heard on the radio, but he had the news on -- I'm sure it was on every channel! There had been a touch down about 20 minutes south of us and the wall cloud was quickly headed our way. It was already to where I work -- I had called to let them know what I had heard on the radio and my boss said that everyone was gathering in the bathrooms to take cover. Joe called me to our back door and there it was! We had a huge funnel cloud that appeared to be on the ground although we couldn't see since trees were in the way. Joe took a video of it (here is the link to the video!)and I took a couple pictures! I started to line the bathtub with pillows (which after the fact Joe thought was hilarious) since we live in an apartment and have no basement, but the funnel moved away from us. *PHEW*! According to the weather people on TV, the tornado did touch down several places around us although the only damage done in the entire metro area that I know of was a few headstones were knocked down way south of us. Us Kansas Citians had a crazy little adventure this morning that was both amazing and terrifing, and I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say how grateful I am that all my loved ones are safe and to be safe myself. Oh, and don't be afraid to visit!! :-)

Spa-ring, spa-ring!

Wow, it's been a long time since I have written anything... I go through periods where I want to do things like make my own magnets or scrapbook or write on my blog about what's going on in our lives, but those times are sometimes (read: often) few and far between. However, you can't share much in 160 characters nor should you.
We are very excited about it being spring here in Kansas. It's so nice that the world is green again. I love flowers and seeing trees all puffy with blooms. Joe is a total snow bunny which is weird since he is from cali/arizona, but I hate the snow since I hate being wet and cold, so I am happy to say, "GOODBYE, SNOW!"
Joe and I are moving about 30 minutes from where we live now in order to go back to school. We can't wait to have a new start... although our old one wasn't that long ago. We will definitely miss our friends and family, but the good news is that we won't be too far so don't forget about us!

Life with the T's

Hello, friends. I almost said "peeps". Interesting. Not too much is new with us, but it's been a lil bit so I wanted to write a lil sumpin sumpin. I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving already! I love the holidays, but I AM MISSING SUMMER! It's gotten cold -- I don't have to wear a coat quite every day yet, but that is still plenty cold for me. This morning, my windsheild had frost/ice on it :( I say "frost/ice" because it was more than measley frost, but it wasn't icy enough that I had to get out and scrape it. Ten or fifteen swooshes of the wipers and about a quart of wiper fluid (yes, I am actually that lazy) and I was good to go. Joe is loving the cold and has been praying for snow. I wouldn't be surprised if his "praying" is literal: "Dear God, SNOWPLEASEILOVESNOW!!!" That's my silly husband.
Tomorrow, we are having the missionaries over for dinner for the first time as a family... I feel like I am like capital "O" capital "M" Officially Married now :) It will be a crazy day as I am for once going to homemaking as well. I am not one who really delights in the cooking and crafts, but maybe I will change. I think I would enjoy cooking more if I didn't work full time. That's a lie - I still probably wouldn't, but I would have more energy! :) I invited my mom to come along because the stuff they are doing is up her alley, so it should be good. JoeJoe kindly agreed to make his special spaghetti for dinner tomorrow to help ease the craziness of my night. What a guy, huh? I'm lucky in that I married a helpful guy :)

Planty Needs Your Help (!!!)

3 or so weeks ago, we adopted a little plant which I dubbed "Planty", obviously. It seemed to fit him. *shrug* Well, how we got it is we stopped at one of my parents' friends houses for something and she told Joe and I that she went to dinner at a couple's house and the woman gave her a plant she didn't want anymore, but the first lady didn't know what to do with it. She said that it's Hawaiian so she thought of us (ha). I was delighted because I have been wanting a house plant or two because they just seem so home-y. Here is a picture of him (Planty).

The thing is, is that we have no idea what kind of plant it is so I don't know how much light and water to give it. I was trying to find a website that would ask me questions about it in order to narrow down what it might be and I also looked at pictures of Hawaiian house plants and came up with nothing both times. Two of Planty's leaves are starting to turn brown and I am afraid he is going to die :( Help me out if you happen to know what he is or a way to find out. I don't want my next post to be titled "RIP Planty" :(

Adventures in Cooking...

Yeah, so... those of you that know me well know I'm not the chef type. I definitely enjoy eating, but for whatever reason, I don't especially like cooking. I thought I would catch the Betty Crocker bug once I got married, but that hasn't quite happened. I mean, I do my wifely duties and make good, balanced dinners for my husband (while half the time I eat a couple of bowls of cereal instead) and he is a sweetheart and cooks dinner some of the time, too. The dinners I make aren't that dometic though. I put the self-steaming frozen or canned veggies in the microwave and pat myself on the back for being a good wife. No stir-fried or special herbs here... unless the special herbs are included. What I'm saying is I technically do the job, but I feel like I should be doing more than heating up pasta sauce to dump on spaghetti noodles for my husband. In hopes of curing my cooking non-love, I asked my mom who lives close to us if on Saturday mornings I can come over and pratice cooking a dish. I just completed the second dish today: chicken enchiladas. Last week, I made lasagne. Joe and I had a thing of chicken (whole in pieces) in our freezer, so we thawed it and brought it over and my mom supplied the rest. I have always been repulse by raw poultry much less its gizzards (Joe likes the HEART?!)  much less ripping the skin off much less pulling and cutting it apart. I almost puked all over the chicken so I bowed out and let my mom finish that part. I told Joe when we were dating a year ago that I don't do raw poultry especially the whole ones that you have to yank apart and he said he was okay with that because he'd do it. He claims to have no memory of that conversation. Anyway, just wanted to let my peeps know about my little goal to progress to Good Cook Status (GCS). Keep ya posted!

They are finally here, folks! Joe and I got our wedding pictures in the mail yesterday so I can finally post a few! These haven't been touched up or cropped as they are just the quick and dirty.
